AquiSense Named 2026 Breakthrough Technology Company of the Year by Global Water Intelligence

  • Prestigious industry award recognizes the growing impact of UV-C LED technology in water treatment
  • Recognition highlights successful deployment of UV-C LED systems across drinking water, wastewater, industrial, and commercial applications worldwide

KENTUCKY, US ─ AquiSense has been named the 2026 Breakthrough Technology Company of the Year by the Global Water Intelligence (GWI), a recognition voted on by water industry professionals from around the world. The award honors companies delivering transformative technologies that are shaping the future of water treatment.

This recognition marks a significant milestone not only for AquiSense, but for UV-C LED technology as a whole. For years, UV-C LED disinfection was viewed as an emerging technology. Today, deployments across drinking water, wastewater, industrial, and commercial applications are proving that the breakthrough is here. UV-C LED has moved beyond small applications and into large-scale water treatment around the world.

Founded in 2015, AquiSense was among the first to commercialize UV-C LED technology for water treatment applications and has since become the world’s largest manufacturer of UV-C LED disinfection systems. To date, the company has produced more than half a million units, ranging from point-of-use systems to large-scale municipal installations.

The award was presented during the Global Water Summit, where leaders from across the water sector gathered to discuss the industry’s most pressing challenges and emerging opportunities. AquiSense was recognized alongside an accomplished group of finalists representing some of the most innovative companies in the global water market. The recognition is particularly meaningful because it was awarded through peer voting. Which included fellow competitors, utilities, engineers, consultants, and other professionals from across the global water sector.

As regulatory, operational, and sustainability requirements continue to evolve, UV-C LED technology is increasingly being adopted as an alternative to conventional mercury-based UV systems. Offering instant on/off operation, reduced maintenance requirements, and mercury-free operation, UV-C LED systems are helping utilities and industrial users modernize disinfection processes while advancing sustainability goals.

Oliver Lawal, Founder and CEO of AquiSense, commented: “This award reinforces what we are seeing across the industry. We are grateful to Global Water Intelligence, the industry leaders who voted for us, and the customers and partners who believed in this technology from the start. Most importantly, this award reflects the dedication and innovation of the AquiSense team. UV-C LED technology has reached a point where performance, reliability, and scalability are driving real-world adoption. We believe this is only the beginning.”
