Expanding Access to Clean Water in Uganda with Deca 30C

PearlAqua Deca 30C Deployment with Integrated Remote Monitoring

Overview

AquiSense has partnered with a group in Mbale, Uganda, to install a series of PearlAqua Deca 30C systems for providing reliable, chemical-free water disinfection. The installation was completed in October, with full operations beginning in February, and was carried out in collaboration with BeyondBlue and Innovation: Africa. The system is supported by a connected monitoring platform that tracks performance, water consumption, and provides system alerts in real-time. This installation represents an important step toward scalable, data-driven water treatment in remote settings.

Problem

Prior to installation, the water source in Mbale showed contamination with E. coli and total coliforms, a significant risk to community health. These microbial contaminants were especially present during the rainy seasons, when water quality variability increases due to flooding and standing water. Previously, the lack of consistent data monitoring made it difficult to rely on treatment options and respond quickly to changing conditions.

Innovation

The Deca 30C features low power consumption and minimal maintenance, making it well suited for resource constrained environments with limited infrastructure and technical support. The installation includes remote monitoring, allowing operators to track system performance, water usage, and receive system alerts from a dashboard. In addition, the project is advancing towards full data integration by incorporating field test results, including biological sampling, into the same software platform. This will create a holistic view of operational and water quality data, providing the community with valuable peace-of-mind.

Result
Since becoming operational, the system has been providing approximately 2,500 community members with 25,000 liters of clean water per day. On-site biological testing confirms that E. coli and total coliforms previously detected in the source water are not present after UV-C LED treatment. Ensuring reliable access to safe drinking water is important for overall community health and quality of life.
