Dr Rich Simons, Ph.D. Appointed Adjunct of the Faculty of Graduate Studies at Dalhousie University

Dr Rich Simons, Ph.D., Head of Application Science at AquiSense Technologies, has been appointed as an Adjunct (Faculty of Graduate Studies) in the Department of Civil and Resource Engineering on the academic staff of the Faculty of Graduate Studies at Dalhousie University. AquiSense has developed many research tools and has worked with Dalhousie to integrate them into the research community. This appointment is a great opportunity for Dr Simons and AquiSense to continue to work closely with the University to progress the development of UV disinfection.

Rich earned his Master’s in Engineering and PhD from the Department of Materials at Imperial College London, studying optoelectronic materials theory and methods for the simulation of UV-C LED water treatment reactor performance. Since 2016 he has worked at AquiSense Technologies to advance the deployment of UV-C LED technologies, and as Head of Application Science a key aspect of his work is to translate technology potential into system realization as UV-C LED performance continues to improve. AquiSense joined the NSERC/Halifax Water Industrial Research Chair, led by Prof. Gagnon at Dalhousie University, in 2019 and Rich has led AquiSense’s involvement in the associated research efforts since this time; this relationship has led to closer collaboration between research and implementation of UV-C LED technologies, and his latest appointment continues to strengthen this work.
